Doctors in High River push to reopen hospital

Doctors in High River are urging the province to reopen the hospital in the town.

In a letter to the Premier and Alberta Health Services, the group said it is deeply concerned any additional unjustified delay will have incremental negative health impacts.

The patients who were in the hospital when the flooding hit the town have been moved all over the province, from Edmonton to Fort Macleod.

As to how long it will take and when it might reopen, Dr. Ron Gorshay said all is quiet on that front.

“We’re really not being told anything,” he said. “At present, we’re not receiving any indication about when the hospital will be operating again or when our patients will return.”

The doctors say the priority is to provide exceptional care to the community and the province can help by opening the facility as soon as possible.

Health Minister Fred Horne has released a statement as well.

He said the hospital will continue to reopen on a phased approach.
