Crews make quick work of hotel fire

No injuries were reported following a fire at the Best Western Airport Inn in Calgary overnight.

Acting Battalion Chief Ed Cornez says a call came in just after 11 p.m. Monday about a possible fire on 19th Street and 18th Avenue N.E.

“On entry they found one of the suites on the third floor had had a fire in it,” he says. “The sprinkler systems helped put it in check and put the fire out. So we just had basically water damage to remove, and smoke in the building.”

A number of guests of the hotel were relocated for the night.

No details have yet been released on how much damage was done, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Response to the fire was very quick as the Number 4 Station is across the street.
