A sad day for the Edmonton police force, as one of its K9 members was killed.
The dog was slashed while helping capture a suspect involved in a pursuit.
Tanara Mclean with Breakfast Television Edmonton tells 660News the 5 year-old dog, which goes by the name Quanto was killed while in the line of duty.
“They are very fearless, they jump into these situations because their sole purpose really is to serve and protect, and that’s what they are there to do. So when this happens it is quite sad and obviously questions are always raised surrounding what kind of protection they have,” he says.
Mclean says a few years ago, Edmontonians rallied to raise money to buy a protective jacket for an RCMP dog which was injured when it was shot.
The last Edmonton police dog killed in the line of duty was Caesar, back in 1998; the animal was shot in a school yard.
