The mayor is not too thrilled about a large blue ring in the northeast at Deerfoot Trail and 96th Avenue.
The public art project entitled “Travelling Light” is designed to represent the wheel, a universal mode of transportation.
Mayor Nenshi says he understands it’s a work of engineering feat to balance it on its edge, but still thinks it’s terrible.
He says it was chosen by a panel of five citizens who curated it and they managed to pick something they like and this is what we got.
He adds, while he doesn’t like it, sometimes art is divisive and we need to continue to ensure we have public art.
The location was chosen because it’s a place where a number of modes of transportation come together.
The price tag is $470,000 but Nenshi says that only represents one per cent of the entire capital project budget.
