Class sizes alarming union

Swelling class sizes are raising alarm bells again in Calgary.

The Calgary Public Teachers Local 38 tells the Calgary Herald, high schools are reporting classrooms with over 40 students each.

The union tells the paper, it’s raising questions about student safety, and teacher stress.

On September 27th, the Alberta Teachers Association laid out similar numbers, saying a few classrooms had over 50 students.

Education Minister Jeff Johnson has said he’s surprised by the high enrolment, but is confident class sizes should stabilize in the next few weeks.
