Scientists using cows to produce fuel

Could cows power our cars?

A group of scientists in Argentina have discovered a way to turn bovine burps into fuel.

Argentina’s National Institute of Agricultural Technology’s technique involves running a tube from the cow’s stomach into a tank.

Methane, the key component of natural gas, is then separated from the other gases found in the tank.

Each head of cattle can produce between 250 to 300 litres of methane a day, which is enough to power a refrigerator for 24 hours.
