For the second time this frigid week, Alberta’s demand for electricity has reached an all time high.
According to the Alberta Electric Operator, it reached 10, 677 megawatts at 6p.m. Wednesday evening.
Spokesperson Dawn Delaney told 660News, it’s a bit of a surprise.
“We typically hit these records in the winter season here in Alberta, but what is somewhat unusual is that we’re hitting the record so early in the winter season, in advance of that additional demand that will come onto the grid with the Christmas lighting load,” she said.
Delaney added, that’s a clear indication power demand is growing fast, and will continue to go higher, as the province’s economy grows.
You can help reduce pressure on the power grid, by running major appliances after 7p.m.
