Country music singer George Canyon is expressing his grief on the passing of Calgary pilot Bill Lovse, who died in a plane crash near Lloydminster Saturday.
Lovse had dropped off Canyon and his tour manager at the Lloydminster airport before the accident.
The Cessna 210 took off from the airport, but then hit the ground, slid and came to rest against a house.
In a statement, Canyon says “I have just lost a dear friend who was not just an aviation buddy, we shared an interest in sports and often played hockey together.
He and I have flown many times all over the place. I am devastated with the news and my prayers and thoughts are all with his family and friends.”
Transportation Safety board officials are investigating.
In another incident involving a pilot from Calgary, fate was on the side of an unidentified man.
His Ultra Light Blue Yonder GT flipped over in flight, Saturday, landing upside down at Winters Aire Park, southeast of the city.
The Mounties, EMS and firefighters responded to the emergency near Highway 22X and Range Road 282.
EMS tells 660News, the only person in the plane — the male pilot — escaped unscathed.
It’s not known if he was taking off or landing.
The owner of the plane declined to comment about the incident.
