One child dies, another in critical condition after Glenmore crash

One of two young boys rushed to hospital with critical injuries has died following a crash in the southeast late Wednesday afternoon on Glenmore Trail West of the Deerfoot.

Just after 5 p.m. a pickup truck travelling eastbound on Glenmore Trail lost control, struck the median and rolled into oncoming traffic, including a semi.

Duty Inspector Jay Judin tells 660News, the latest on the other child is he is in critical but stable condition.

Judin says the child who died is the younger of the two and rolling closures were put in place at intersections along 16th Avenue and other routes to get the kids to hospital as quickly as possible.

EMS confirms they transported two boys, approximately one and three years of age to hospital.

The woman driver was also injured in the crash, but her injuries are not believed to be serious.

Glenmore Trail was shut down in both directions for about 5 hours as a result.

The closure caused serious backups on many routes in the south part of the city, including the Deerfoot and Stoney Trail.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
