Doctor calls Canadians overmedicated

A Montreal psychiatrist says we’re too medicated!

Dr. Joel Paris from McGill University says Canadians are too quick to pop pills for normal bouts of sadness.

Paris tells the National Post, Canucks take twice the anti-depressants Italians do, and more than those in Germany or France.

He says, anti-depressants are necessary in cases of severe, and debilitating mental woes, but most of us are trying to fix things that don’t need to be fixed.

Dr. Paris argues there are many good reasons for being unhappy, and taking drugs when you don’t need to can lead you into a pattern of dependence.
