Thousands of emails belonging to Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s staffers shine a light inside the mayor’s office as news of the crack scandal broke.
This is all part of a freedom of information request, and some 7,000 emails show Ford’s office scrambling to deal with the crisis.
On May 16th, the day the U.S. website Gawker broke the crack video story, emails started circulating.
The Globe and Mail reports, within three minutes of recieving the inital email about the soon-to-be-published Gawker story, Ford’s press secretary forwarded it to his assistant and then sent it to Mark Towhey, the Mayor’s then Chief of Staff.
Within an hour the story appeared on the Gawker website and emails from around the world started pouring in, requesting interviews.
