Fire crews battle kitchen fires

A couple of kitchen fires kept Calgary fire crews busy.
Just after midnight Monday, crews were called to a fourplex in the 2900 block of Unwin Road in the Northwest in the University Heights area.
“On arrival crews were faced with heat and smoke from a basement suite of a fourplex. Crews quickly gained entry, extinguished the fire and contained it to the kitchen area,” Acting Battalion Chief Ken Kulikoski said.
No injuries were reported, but the people who live in the fourplex had to find somewhere else to spent the night.
Investigators will be back in the home later on Monday to pinpoint the cause of the blaze and tabulate damage.
The Fire Department also had to douse another kitchen blaze last night at a duplex in Oakridge in the Southwest; again no injuries reported.
