Calgary Zoo to feature lantern festival this fall

The Year of the Horse will bring a stunning attraction to the zoo this fall!

A special lantern festival will open in September.

The event will involve the gardens and the Eurasian animal area and will be the first of its kind in western Canada.

Roz Freeman with the Calgary Zoo tells 660News the lanterns, which are colourful during the day and brightly-lit at night, are exquisite.

“Incredible, custom-made artisan-level lanterns are coming over from China.  They’re made of rayon, some of them are made of Chinese porcelain and medicine bottles and they are constructed here in Calgary with a team of men that come over from China, men and women,” says Freeman.

One of the attractions is a 300-foot Chinese porcelain dragon.
