Calgarians flock to bars for Canada’s win

It certainly wasn’t the most productive day at work for many Calgarians on Friday.
Downtown bars were packed to watch Canada advance to the Olympic gold medal game in men’s hockey, with a 1-0 win over the USA.
Flames Central was filled to capacity when the puck dropped at 10:00 a.m.
With hockey gloves on his hands, and a Canadian flag at his table, Adam Harty said he was always confident in his team.
“You know what, 1-0 in the third period, with the six best defensemen in the NHL, and a Norris Trophy winner in the press box, I felt good,” Hardy said.
When the final buzzer sounded, Evan Grant said the victory brought back memories.
“Back to the Vancouver Olympics, and to 2004’s playoff run with the Flames,” Grant said.
Now Calgarians must decide whether they will set their alarm early Sunday morning for the 5:00 a.m. MT start time, to watch Canada play Sweden in the gold-medal game.
“Can’t wait for Sunday at 5:00 a.m., definitely not going to be going to sleep Saturday night,” Grant said.
But many fans like Scott Sterrit added had the team won or lost, the atmosphere makes it even more memorable.
“I’m sure productivity across the country went to zero for this morning, which is fine, we all need a little bit of a distraction from our jobs,” he said. “I thought it was really good that we all come together under one banner and that’s what Canadians are all about.”
