With warm temperatures expected over the weekend, backcountry users are advised to be cautious.
There is the potential for avalanches due to weak layers of snow formed in late February and just because you can’t see an unstable surface doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
Eiric Sharpe from the Canadian Avalanche Centre reminds users to be aware when headed out.
He says, “Exercise some discipline, take conservative terrain choices and avoid venturing out into more consequential terrain for the time being, even if you don’t see evidence of unstable snow on the surface.”
Sharpe also recommends checking the avalanche bulletin on avalanche.ca.
