More measles cases confirmed at Calgary schools

Two more Calgary schools have sent letters home to parents, as they investigate two confirmed cases of the measles.

Officials at Henry Wise Wood High School and Sherwood School say some students and staff have been ordered to stay home for the next couple of weeks to prevent further spread of the disease.

Parents will be contacted directly by Alberta Health Services if their child has not been confirmed to be immune to, or protected against measles.

Similar measures have already been put in place at Western Canada High School after two students came down with the measles earlier this month.

So far in 2014, five people in Calgary have tested positive for measles, which is very contagious to those who have not had the disease in the past or have not been immunized with two doses of vaccine.

Some of the cases can be traced to the Philippines, which is undergoing a measles attack that has sent people to hospital and claimed lives.

More information is available for students and families on the Sherwood School and Henry Wise Wood High School websites.
