River ice jam warning in northern Alberta

Alberta Emergency Alert has issued an ice jam warning for the northern part of the province.

Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource says ice buildup in the Peace River and Fort Vermillion area could mean rapidly rising river levels, both up and downstream.

The alert comes with a warning to residents that increased water levels could mean flooding in low-lying areas surrounding the communities.

Anyone taking part in activities near rivers in the region should be aware of changing conditions.
