Grand Opening of Calgary’s Agrium Western Event Centre

It’s one of the largest projects in the Calgary Stampede’s 102-year history.

The 2,500 seat Agrium Western Event Centre, with a 250’x125′ foot show floor and VIP suites, is now finished with a grand opening held Saturday.

It’s a state-of-the-art facility for western events and agriculture education, exhibition and industry in southern Alberta.

Stampede spokesperson Bonni Clark tells 660News the building and related infrastructure cost $61.2 million.

“We traveled to the worlds best equine and western events facilities to see what they did right, what they would have done differently and we made sure we incorporated all of those best practices and the most animal friendly features into every aspect of this buildings design,” says Clark.

The facility includes an adjacent exhibition hall for a show-ring or warm-up arena, trade shows or concurrent events and is an important milestone in the Calgary Stampede’s vision of becoming a world-class, year-round gathering place, custom-designed for its role connecting urban and rural audiences.
