A disturbing update from police.
Forensic evidence shows a violent crime took place in the home where Kathryn and Alvin Likness when they and 5 year-old grandson Nathan O’Brien went missing from on Monday.
Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus confirmed forensic evidence was taken from the home and is being analyzed, but he wouldn’t say what the evidence was, how much there was, or even where in the home it was found.
He also wouldn’t confirm if it was blood.
He said investigators don’t know if one of or all of the victims were involved in the violent incident but he hopes the evidence will give investigators a better idea about what happened.
“We’ve sent the exhibits away, and we’ll have a better understanding of that once we get the results back from those exhibits but based on the evidence I would say that someone would be in medical distress,” he explained.
Andrus added they hope to have the results of forensic testing within the week.
He also said it doesn’t appear that there was forced entry into the home.
Police are working with a number of theories for a motive and Andrus added it’s still early in the investigation.
“We have done a lot of work, but there’s still a lot of work to be done,” he explained. “We’ve got a lot of support and a lot of assistance from the public.”
“We have well over 200 tips that we’re going through and that takes time to follow up on each tip.”
He explained it’s still a missing persons case, the Amber Alert is still in effect and they still hope to find the family alive.
Meanwhile, investigators are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a truck and driver who may have more information. The truck was in the area the night of the disappearance.
The truck is described as a late 80’s or early 90’s, Ford 150, green in colour and appears to be kept in very good condition.
On Thursday, investigators spoke with about 75 people at the Parkhill Stanley Park Community Centre who attended the estate sale at the victim’s residence on the weekend.
Saturday, search and rescue crews teamed up with investigators to comb the Stanley Park and Parkhill area once again, to ensure they didn’t miss anything during the first sweep.
Investigators believe there were more than 200 people at the sale and continue to ask anyone who may have attended to contact police at 403-266-1234 or homicidetips@calgarypolice.ca.
