Some University of Calgary students could soon feel it in the pocketbooks!
Market modifying tuition hikes could soon be applied to three programs, raising costs by as much as 30 per cent in Law, Engineering and the Master of Business Administration.
University of Calgary Provost Dr. Dru Marshall informed the U of C Students’ Legislative Council Tuesday of the idea.
Marshall is planning a significant round of consultations with students before their request has to be filed to the province on October 15th.
Back in July, Advanced Education Minister and Premier Dave Hancock said he would entertain proposals from schools for adjustments to tuition for up to five programs each.
It’s still unclear how much the school wants to raise tuition by but other schools have filed proposals for as much as 60 per cent.
The news comes as the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternative says provincial funding for Canadian universities is inadequate and the cost of obtaining a degree is putting huge strains on students and their families.
