Flames captain Giordano done for season

The Calgary Flames have been dealt a serious blow to their season with the news that captain Mark Giordano will miss the rest of the year.

The team announced Monday that their all-star defenseman will require surgery on a torn biceps tendon, with a recovery time slated for four to five months.

General Manager Brad Treliving told reporters Giordano looked at every avenue to avoid surgery, but it simply wasn’t possible.

“There is no opportunity for him to play,” he said. “He was devastated by the news and talked to him a lot, we’ve tried to cheer each other up and haven’t done a great job of it, but we’re getting there.”

“This is not what he wanted, but this is what it is so we’ll deal with it.”

The all-star will end the year with 11 goals and 37 assists in 61 games.
