A celebration of 20 years worth of Calgary Hitmen hockey happens Sunday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The club is holding Fan Appreciation Day and honouring some Hitmen players just before a 2:00 p.m. puck drop against the Kootenay Ice, which is Calgary’s last regular season game of the year.
Play-by-play announcer Brad Curle tells 660News about some of the awards being presented.
“All the awards, from Scholastic Player of the Year, Top Defenseman, Rookie of the Year, and even the prestigious Player of the Year trophy will all be presented on the ice. It really gives an opportunity for all the Hitmen fans to congratulate their players on their individual achievements by recognizing their efforts both on and off the ice with this on-ice ceremony,” said Curle.
As for Fan Appreciation Day, Curle says a few goodies will be handed out.
“A Dodge Caravan will be given away to one lucky fan. 7,000 Hitmen team posters will be given out to fans upon exit of the Scotiabank Saddledome. It’s also the Distress Centre Awareness game in support of ConnecTeen, which is a confidential peer support service for youth in the Calgary area. It gives them an opportunity to raise their profile and for the Calgary Hitmen to partner with them as well.”
After the game, fans are invited to join the Hitmen players and coaching staff for a reception in the Chrysler Club, with the team awards on display.
Admission to the reception, offered on a first-come, first-served basis, is free with a game ticket.
