Event celebrates Calgary Public Library volunteers

Just ahead of National Volunteer Week that kicks off this Sunday, the Calgary Public Library will honour and thank over 2,000 of their own volunteers at a special event Friday evening.
They have “donated” a total of over 50,000 hours during the past year.
Deputy CEO Ellen Humphrey tells 660News, the majority of their volunteers say they get more out of the experience, than they contribute especially when dealing with people one-on-one:
“Enormous feeling of satisfaction when a child who’s been struggling with reading, when a lightbulb goes on and they become a confident reader; very happy to put a smile on the face of somebody who’s struggling to learn English as a second language and they become more and more confident and so more and more able to participate in society in general,” she said.
Humphrey adds that as our library grows, they warmly welcome more volunteers to help them make Calgary’s system the best in the world.
