Mayor Naheed Nenshi has reacted to a Lethbridge councillor who wants to lower the voting age to 16 in municipal elections.
Jeff Coffman says he’s worried about low voter turnout.
Nenshi says the last Student Vote program, which encourages young people to cast a ballot, almost mirrored the actual result in the provincial election.
“And I think that really says that young people really understand the issues, they understand what people are voting for,” he said.
Nenshi says the young voters got the seat count down to three or four seats.
