An unfortunate fallout from the 2013 flood.
Scouts Canada has had to close Camp Gardner west of Calgary.
The local Chinook Scouts Council has posted a video on YouTube, explaining the costs of maintaining and developing the property are just too onerous.
“It is simply too much of a drain on our financial resources and our program resources to continue to maintain and develop the property in a manner that supports our scouting program,” said Commissioner Mark Little.
“Our members and clients have done their voting with their feet and Camp Gardner is closing.
The camp was ravaged by floodwaters two years ago and repair costs were pegged at $1.5 million. The scouts are hoping they can find a partner to take over operation, so programs can be resumed in the future.
