Driver rushed to hospital following serious crash west of Calgary: RCMP

Mounties in Cochrane say a motorist has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries in a collision traffic west of Calgary Friday.

RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney says the driver of a minivan rear-ended a crane truck in the westbound lanes of Highway 1 at Jumping Pound Road, suffering serious injuries.

EMS says paramedics rushed the patient to hospital in life-threatening condition just before 7:30 a.m.

Police say the heavy-duty crane truck driver was setting up pylons on the highway when a delivery van rear-ended the truck.

The crane truck driver was uninjured but the driver of the delivery van suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Calgary.

The westbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours but reopened around 6:30 p.m.
