Not every Canadian voter is picking their favourite for this Monday’s federal election. Many voters are looking at polls or websites such as StategicVoting.ca in a move to push out the Conservatives.
Calgary-based I.T. worker Hisham Abdel-Rahman created the website. He says the federal Conservatives have maintained power over the last ten years because opposition parties are splitting the vote. He points to the 2011 election as an example.
“About five million people went to polling stations, voted, and they elected zero MPs. Five million people out of a total of 14 million people who actually voted in this election. That’s a huge number if we look at [it] percentage-wise,” says Abdel-Rahman.
The website lists recommendations for all 338 election districts in Canada for voters trying to oust the Conservatives. In Calgary, the website recommends Liberal votes in all of the city’s ridings.
Abdel-Rahman says hundreds of thousands of Canadians have been viewing the site, and Calgary users are in the top five for those viewing the website leading up to Election Day.
