All but two ridings in Calgary are Tory blue, as the Conservative party continues to have strong roots in the city and province.
Many ridings were hotly contested, including those of Calgary Skyview, Calgary Centre and Calgary Confederation.
Calgary Centre had a back and forth race between Liberal candidate Kent Hehr and Conservative Joan Croakatt.
The practical tug of war saw the two exchange votes, with things too hard to call by the end of the evening.
Supporters of Hehr cheered every time he pulled ahead.
When Liberal supporters at Hehr’s victory party headquarters heard that Stephen Harper was stepping down as leader of the Conservatives, they drowned out the announcement.

In Calgary Skyview, Darshan Kang, a former MLA, captured the riding over incumbent Conservative Devinder Shory.
It’s the first time a Liberal has won a seat in Calgary since the late 1960s.
