CAPP submits recommendations to Alberta’s Royalty Review Panel

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers wants three years notice before the NDP government changes royalty rates.

CAPP submitted a list of 60 recommendations to the province’s panel, reviewing changes to oil and gas producers.

The group asked to keep existing cost deductions and consider introducing new ones to offset recent tax hikes.

CEO Tim McMillan said that they want Alberta to re-gain its top position in the global market.

“We’ve seen Alberta drop from attracting about 36 per cent of North America’s oil and gas investments two decades ago, to today we’re only attracting about 17 per cent. And we think that there’s several ways to improve our system, to make us more competitive and ultimately reach the goals that the panel has set out for itself,” he said.

McMillan added that stability and certainty is very important to the industry, but CAPP is committed to being constructive during this royalty review, and to putting forth ideas that will leave them stronger in the long run.
