COP looking to open November 14

There’s a good chance the ‘Super El Nino’ this season will make way for a warmer winter, but it’s not trumping the plans of local recreation facilities that thrive on cold weather and snow.
WinSport Spokesperson Dale Oviatt says they went through some setbacks last year, but luckily they invested in new equipment that will help generate the usual 97 per cent share of snow at Canada Olympic Park
“Despite the forecast of some warmth, we know there’s going to be some cold weather. Really, we need about minus five degrees or colder, in order to proper snow making, so, we need that for an extended period of time and we know, overnight in Calgary it’s going to get to that cold,” he said.
He’s hoping for cold weather the first week of next month, so it’s cool enough to make enough snow for a November 14 opening.
