It’s no secret that Calgarians have a massive love affair with morning dining. Here are 5 spots that are worth waking up early for.
- Rosso Coffee Roasters – Stopping by a Rosso location solely for your morning cup of coffee is a mistake because then you’d be missing out on one of the best breakfast sandwiches in the city. A herb and cheese biscuit with egg, bacon and honey mustard. A perfect example of beauty in simplicity.

- Galaxie Diner – If I’m looking to cure a hangover, a fancy pants brunch just doesn’t fit the bill. This Calgary classic is a great example of a greasy spoon diner. Big portions, loads of hashbrowns in a quaint little room. Go early or be willing to wait in line for awhile.

- Blue Star – Their emphasis on sourcing local and fun food makes this Bridgeland morning eatery one of the best places to grab an A.M. bite in Calgary. Blue Star is open for lunch and dinner too, but it’s dishes like the blueberry banana pancakes or chipotle pulled pork hash that make eating early totally worth it.

- Yellow Door Bistro – Typically hotel breakfast buffets are pretty disappointing. Luckily, Yellow Door shatters that stigma with a jawdroppingly delicious spread every morning of the week. If buffets still aren’t your thing, consider ordering a la carte, specifically their gourmet pancakes that change monthly. Currently you can fork into a stack of “Christmas cake” pancakes topped with cranberry and date compote and caramel chantilly cream. What’s not to love?

- Monki – A beautiful line-up of eggs benedicts, the signature Monki hash with spiced brisket and sausage, the Frangelico and cream cheese “French toast” that eats almost like a dessert, a cool and cozy space that only seats about 20…there are endless things to love about this place. Since they opened about 3 years ago, I’ve eaten pretty much every, single item on the menu and keep coming back for more. If that’s not a sign of Monki being of the best brunch spots in the country, I’m not sure what is.
