Federal Green Party leader Elizabeth May is in the French capital and says overall, she is pleased with the draft deal reached at the COP21 Climate Change Conference.
“It’s a lot better than it might have been, and it’s of course not as good as one might have wished at the outer reach of what might be possible, but honestly I’m very satisfied,” May said.
Having eviewed both the agreement and the decision, two separate documents, she says and it’s a good thing.
The agreement will now return to capital cities around the world to be ratified as legally-binding.
“It aims at the right level of reducing green house gases fast enough to avoid, not only the two-degree global average temperature increase, but actually also includes a one-point-five global average temperature increase.”
May said the vibe in Paris is an emotional one.
