Mounties make arrest in 2007 murder

A charge of first-degree murder has been laid in a central Alberta homicide that dates back more than eight years.
The body of 36-year-old Gerry Berdahl of Calgary was found in March 2007 near a gravel road east of Carstairs, and while the death was quickly determined to be murder, no one was charged until last week when 49-year-old Russell Steven Tessier was arrested.
Corporal Hal Turnbull tells 660NEWS the Historical Homicide Unit never stops working.
“This was a triumph for the men and women of the Historical Homicide Unit, finally bringing to justice — or identifying and charging — an individual responsible of rather heinous crime that deprived the Berdahl family of Gerry.”
Tessier, of Calgary, was set to appear in a Didsbury courtroom Monday.
