Police investigate hate graffiti at northwest Calgary school

A Calgary mom is frustrated over a number of incidents, including a large wall of graffiti Wednesday morning, at a northwest school.
The Dalhousie resident, who wants to keep her identity private for fear of reprisal, told 660 NEWS she was shocked when she dropped her kids off at West Dalhousie school.
She says she wasn’t able to shield her children from seeing the racial slurs and terrorist references spray-painted on a back wall.
Megan Geyer with the Calgary Board of Education said while they don’t have exact numbers, schools frequently have to deal with foul graffiti.
“When vandalism occurs at any of our properties, our Facilities Department works to arrange for repair as soon as is practical. Of course, we work in collaboration with the school and the CPS to make that cleanup happen,” said Geyer.
The parent explained to 660 NEWS that this is the latest in a number of incidents in the last year, including nails driven into tires of staff and parent vehicles, and small fires set at the back of the building.
Police are investigating but officials say, although there have been more incidents in the general area, it doesn’t appear the school is being specifically targeted.
They have also increased patrols in the community recently as a result.
