After a grueling season, it all comes down to one game for the Calgary Inferno.
The Canadian Women’s Hockey League team is facing Montreal Les Cannadiennes in Ottawa at Sunday’s Clarkson Cup.
The game truly is a meeting of the best in the CWHL. Montreal finished first overall in the standings (20-3-1), while Calgary wrapped up second (16-6-1-1).
“We know our opponent well now that we’ve played them quite a bit so we can zone in on what their tendencies are and adapt our game to defend better,” Inferno assistant coach Gina Kingsbury said. “It’s the Stanley Cup of women’s hockey, so it’s all our dreams we’ve had little girls and the excitement that goes with that.”
A win versus Montreal would give Calgary their first Clarkson Cup.
“It will be fast paced and a high skill level,” Inferno captain Brianne Jenner explained. “It will be very rough at times; it will be two teams fighting for the Clarkson Cup, so it will be a battle.”
Jenner led the team in scoring this season with 28 points, followed by Elana Lovell at 26.
Puck drop on Sunday is set for 2 p.m. Tune into Sportsnet West for full coverage.
