Fentanyl bust nets 1,000 pills

One thousand fentanyl pills have been seized from a Chestermere-based supplier following a joint investigation between ALERT and RCMP.
Cristian Guzman, 23, and Alexandra Prefontaine, 22, were pulled over by authorities in south Edmonton on May 27 via a traffic stop.
ALERT seized 1,000 fentanyl pills, 100 grams of cocaine, and a small amount of marijuana. The street value of the drugs is pegged at $50,000.
Guzman and Prefontaine, both of Chestermere , are jointly charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (x 2) and drug possession.
The seizure was the result of a spin-off investigation, initially carried out by Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) in May. In that investigation, GIS arrested Mohamed Abdi, 30, seized cocaine and cash proceeds of crime, and were then able to track down his Edmonton-based supplier.
Since April 2014, ALERT has seized upwards of 30,000 fentanyl pills in organized crime and gang enforcement investigations.
