Secondary suite fixes up for debate at City Hall

Two ideas to finally ease pressure from secondary suite applications are up for debate Monday.
Nineteen secondary suites are also on the agenda — an example of the weekly headache council has to deal with, by evaluating each proposal one at a time.
A motion signed by seven councillors and Mayor Naheed Nenshi calls the process inefficient and time-consuming.
It asks for suites to be legal in an inner city zone, and those applying in an outer zone to ask for approval via city staff and not council.
A real estate agent with REMAX told 660 NEWS that idea could fall short, as most of the applications are outside of those areas.
Counc. Andre Chabot thinks it should be left for the people to decide.
He’s asking that a plebiscite be added to the 2017 election ballot.
