Feds announce Calgary-based programs trying to help get youth in the workplace

The federal government announced funding for two new Calgary-based programs aimed at connecting young people to better job opportunities and career pathways.
Calgary MP and Veterans Affairs Minister Kent Hehr made the announcement at Bow Valley College of just over $680,000 for two programs.
“We have to make sure we’re getting young people the skills they need to participate in the labour force, to grow the economy and build their lives,” Hehr said.
One matches students with employers, while the other supports youth with barriers to finding jobs.
Both programs are offered through Bow Valley College and its industry partners.
“We know it’s a slow-growth economy and we have to make sure people are getting the skills they need to compete in a global economy and the 21st century,” Hehr added. “These type of investments are going to allow them to get them workplace opportunities that lead to full-time employment.”
