Study suggests it’s time for Alberta to use more solar energy

The Pembina Institute suggests now is the time for Alberta to expand its solar energy network.
Spokesperson Sara Hastings-Simon says Calgary’s peak electricity consumption during the summer is now 1.7 gigawatts, which is higher than the winter peak.
Hastings-Simon says it appears we’re using more energy to keep cool than to keep warm.
“It’s really about the potential for solar to reduce costs in the summertime because it’s generating the electricity right when and where we need it,” she explained.
The only area of the province where winter power consumption continues to eclipse summer is in northern Alberta.
