Hockey players in southeast Calgary are making good use of the newest rinks.
A ceremonial handing of the keys happened today at the Great Plains Recreation facility on 76th avenue southeast from the City of Calgary to operator Canlan Ice Sports.
It features unique architecture, two rinks, viewing areas, locker rooms, a fitness area and a bar and lounge.
Canlan President Joey St. Aubin says some groups have been on the ice already and fall and winter is already filling up.
“When you take your semi-prime time which starts at four o’clock and finish some where around midnight, one o’clock in the morning Monday through Friday and then obviously Saturday and Sunday you start at 6 o’clock in the morning you go to midnight and so you got a lot more ice-time to do that on two sheets and you populate that with potentially 17 players per team, plus the siblings, plus the parents, that’s a lot of people,” said St. Aubin.
Naming rights of the arena and sponsors are yet to be announced.
