Charges pending after two crashes with stolen vehicles

Charges are pending against a man after a series of crashes involving two separate stolen vehicles in the Cochrane area Tuesday.
Cochrane RCMP were notified of a man driving erratically in a stolen van between Airdrie and Cochrane around 11 a.m.
Mounties say they first came across the stolen van and the driver in the neighbourhood of Sunset, where the suspect evaded them and escaped on Highway 22, subsequently colliding with a vehicle at Highway 1-A.
However it didn’t stop there. The vehicle didn’t remain at the scene continuing on, later striking a Jeep at Griffin Road.
Investigators say the man exited the van before he forced the driver of the Jeep to get out of their vehicle, before taking off in it.
He then turned west on to the Trans Canada, where witnesses say he drove into on-coming traffic.
The saga came to an end in the Canmore area where RCMP found the suspect trying to break into vehicles.
He was arrested, but not before he hit a police car with a stolen vehicle.
Fortunately no one was injured in any of the crashes.
The name of the suspect will be released when he is formally charged.
