Parking dramatically changing at Foothills Hospital

A warning to those looking for parking at the Foothills Hospital: one major lot will be closed for the next three years.
Construction is beginning on the new 2,000 stall parking structure that’s meant to replace the main parking area, known as Lot 1.
Site director Michael Suddes says the new facility will be the same size as the old lot.
“We’re expanding it to four stories and we’re starting the demolition work toward Thanksgiving,” Suddes said. “The lot will be closed, though, from the 24th of September. This Saturday, the lot will be closed at midnight.”
They’ll also be installing a new parking ‘pay by plate’ system in hopes of eliminating the old gates.
“We hope that improves flow quite a bit,” he explained. “And that really gets us up to speed with the City of Calgary and how they run their parking services in terms of payment.”
Alberta Health Services says public parking rates will not change.
The public can now use one of four other parking areas on site:
– North parking lot beside 16th Avenue N.W.
– South underground parkade under South Tower, adjacent to Tom Baker Cancer Centre
– East parking lot, beside the Women’s Health Centre
– West underground parkade, beside McCaig Tower and the TRW Building
During construction, there will be minimal road closure on site. All traffic, other than that accessing the Emergency Department, will be encouraged to enter and exit the site by 16th Ave./West Campus Blvd. Emergency Department traffic will continue to be encouraged to access the most direct route from 29th Street N.W.
