Woman killed, man critically injured after being hit by tour bus near Banff

A 53-year-old woman is dead and a 55-year-old man suffered critical injuries after they were struck by a tour bus at the Castle Mountain Lookout.

Mounties say the passengers got off the Hainan Airlines bus at the lookout and the man and woman were standing in front of it when it starting to roll forward.

After hitting them, it then went down the embankment about 20 metres before coming to a rest in the water.

The man was airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to a Calgary hospital.

The victims names have not been released.

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the bus to move forward.

The viewpoint is located west of the Castle Mountain junction on Highway 1.
