Fire broke out in a home on Calgary’s south end Saturday morning.
Luckily, the homeowners were able to get out okay when it happened around ten o’clock.
The fire sparked in the chimney and then spread to the attic.
It happened in an older home on 80th Street and 178th Ave S.E. near the community of Mahogany.
CFD Battalion Chief Paul Leblanc tells 660 NEWS they called in a second alarm to bring in extra backup, including tanker trucks, because there was no dedicated water supply in the area.
“At this time of year with the weather changing like it has, you’re going to see a lot more people using their fireplaces. One of the cautions would be to have your fireplace and chimney inspected on a regular basis,” says Leblanc.
