There’s a renewed push by the LRT on the Green group to get the provincial government to match federal funding for Calgary’s Green Line LRT.
The plan is to use money collected from the new carbon levy to pay for it.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi says discussions with the province have been difficult.
“Because actually, it’s not just about a match. The province needs to come to the table with more, as they traditionally have done, and I still believe. I’m still very confident and very optimistic that we’ll be able to have an answer at least in principle, if not a cheque, by the end of this year,” he said.
Both the federal government and the city have committed funding, with the federal government pledging $1.53-billion.
