Okotoks school reopens after RCMP investigate threat

After completing numerous interviews with students and parents, Okotoks RCMP said they’ve identified the source of the threat against École Okotoks Junior High and are satisfied that it is not credible.

The Mounties said a student at the junior high overheard a conversation between other students after school on Wednesday, during which they discussed carrying out an act of violence at the school on Thursday.

The RCMP identified and interviewed the involved students and determined that while the conversations did take place, there was no plan and no intent to carry out the acts.

John Bailey, Superintendent of Schools for Foothills School Division said, “the school will be open Friday; classes will be conducted as usual. Increased security will be in place. Counsellors, administrative staff, and extra supports will be available to assist students who may require it.”

No criminal charges will be laid in this case.
