Calgary elementary schools are passing with flying colours in the Fraser Institute’s new study. On Saturday, the think-tank released its Report Card on Alberta’s Elementary Schools in 2017, and 13 local schools ranked in the top 20.
“The fastest improving school is Louie Riel […] when you think about these results you can see how much they’ve done since 2011/2012,” said report co-author Peter Cowley.
The study followed nearly 800 elementary schools over a five-year period and ranked each one based on seven academic indicators including Gr. 6 provincial tests in language arts, math, science and social studies.
The study says six Calgary schools showed significant decline in performance, with the lowest being Piitoayis Family School.
“It’s only been in the ranking for one year, [it] got 1.0 out of 10. It’s the first ever ranking they’ve had,” explained Cowley.
