Man arrested after standoff in Forest Lawn

Calgary police managed to peacefully end a more than five-hour standoff with a suspect from a stabbing incident in the S.E. community of Forest Lawn on Tuesday.

The long afternoon followed two separate incidents in the morning.

Police were called to the 5100 block of Hubalta Road for reports of a stabbing where they found one man had been stabbed. He was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition where he was later upgraded to critical but stable.

Then around 10:35 a.m., officers were flagged down by a convenience store clerk who had been robbed by a man fitting the same description as the suspect in the stabbing.

He was followed by officers to a home in the 4500 block of 7 Avenue S.E., where he refused to exit for police resulting in the long standoff.

The man came out of the house around 5 p.m. and was taken into custody.

Charges are now pending.

The investigation is still ongoing, and police are asking anybody with more information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
