Spruce Meadows hosts 42nd Masters Tournament

One of the biggest events of the year is well underway at Spruce Meadows.

The 42nd annual Masters Tournament began Tuesday, with athletes from 20 nations competing for $4.1-million in prize money. The major events take place over the weekend.

Senior Vice President Ian Allison said the 2017 edition celebrates Canada 150.

“We have a great entertainment program, both from Canadian entertainers and some great overseas entertainment, including the Royal Corps of Engineers, who are the British military band, playing at the Spruce Meadows Masters. We have the RCMP Musical Ride, which is always a fan favourite.”

Allison added organizers are keeping a close eye on the animals, with the warm temperatures and haze in the air, but the veterinary commission had no complaints as of Thursday morning.

The tournament wraps up on Sunday.
