Charges laid after Calgary police cruiser rammed

A 22-year-old Calgary man is facing multiple charges in connection to a police cruiser getting rammed.

Around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, officers spotted a suspicious truck in an alley in the 2200 block of 39th Street Southeast.

There were two men in the truck, one in the driver’s seat and one in a rear passenger seat, along with a woman in the front passenger seat.

The man in the back got out and started walking away, so an officer went out to speak with him.

However, at this point, the driver put the truck in reverse and smashed into the patrol truck, which sustained minor damage.

The officer got back in the vehicle as the driver continued to ram it, then crashed through a short wooden fence and sped through the alley before exiting onto 21st Avenue Southeast.

Both officers on the scene were not hurt.

The truck was then spotted driving on Peigan Trail at speeds of almost 160 km/h, and going through red lights.
